The Trojans had three players reach double-digit kills in a win over the Wildcats

LOS ANGELES – The fourth-ranked USC men's volleyball team (4-0) swept Fort Valley State (1-3) in straight sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-22) at Galen Center on Saturday, Jan. 24.

KEY PLAYERS

Sr. OH Dillon Klein led all players with 14.5 points earned on 10 kills (4e, 20att, .300), three service aces and two blocks (one solo) and added six digs. It was his 65th-career match in double-digit kills.
Redshirt So. MB Wesley Smith scored 10 kills (2e) on 20 attacks to log his sixth-career match in double digits. He hit .615 to go with a block and had a season-high four digs.
Jr. S Caleb Blanchette put up 31 assists and had nine digs.
Redshirt Jr. OPP Noah Roberts racked 10 kills (2e) on 20 swings to hit .400 and had two blocks, two digs, and two aces.
So. MB Tyler Robinson started the match and totaled nine kills (2e) on 14 swings with two blocks and had a dig.
For the Wildcats, Isaiah Fedd led with 11 kills and had two blocks and two digs. Jeremy Jacob Gray had four kills and four digs. Jaeden Barnes led the FVSU defense with five digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

USC out-hit FVSU, .306 to .108, and had more kills (44-23), assists (40-21), digs (30-16), and aces (8-4). The Wildcats outblocked the Trojans, 9.0 to 5.0.
The Trojans led, 7-0, before a service error gave FVSU its first point in set one. Robinson had six kills on six swings in the opening frame, and the USC hit .440 to grab a 25-14 win. Klein, Roberts, and Smith each had two kills apiece and Sterling Foley tagged three balls for kills in the win.
The score was tied six times and the lead changed hands three times before USC went up, 2-0, with a 25-22 win in the second set. Smith had six kills and Klein added four in the win, but the Trojans needed some late-set heroics to overcome a Wildcat attack that had FVSU up by as many as three several times and a lead as late as 20-19.
FVSU did more of the same in the third and led by as many as five points at 14-9. It took another comeback push from the Trojans to turn the tide and complete the sweep on a 25-22 win. Roberts had six of his kills in the third and Klein had four, but it was Foley who came in and put the last ball to the ground after the teams were tied 22-all.

UP NEXT

USC hosts No. 13 Ohio State (4-1) to close out the month on Friday (Jan. 30) at Galen Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. PT and the match will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 2-0 all-time against Fort Valley State.
The Trojans moved to 3-0 at home this spring and will play a total of 16 matches at Galen Center.
