No. 24 USC Men’s Golf Falls to No. 7 Arizona State in Final Copper Cup Match

Jaden Dumdumaya’s Win over No. 20 Michael Mjaaseth Was a Bright Spot for the Trojans
LAGUNA NIGUEL, CALIF. — The No. 24 USC men's golf team wrapped up the Copper Cup with an 8.5-2.5 loss to the No. 7 Arizona State Sun Devils at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel, Calif. on Tuesday.
The Trojans got individual match wins from Jaden Dumdumaya — who beat the nation's No. 20 player Michael Mjaaseth — and an alt-shot win from Nicolas Dominguez and Kai Komulainen to make the score all square at two points apiece heading into the afternoon session. However, the Sun Devils would take six of the final seven head-to-head matches to seal the win.
For the morning matches, USC kept two out of the three pairings from Monday's match for Tuesday's alt shot first round matches. Komulainen and Dominguez won three of the final four holes to give the Trojans their lone alt-shot win by beating Raul Gomez and Bryan Newman 2&1. However, the pairings of Raghav Gulati and Antonio Safa, plus Luke Stock and Jack Buchanan fell short in their matches.
Another bright spot from the morning session came from Dumdumaya, who beat Arizona State All-American Michael Mjaaseth — the No. 20 golfer in the latest Scoreboard rankings — 2&1. Playing a close match, Dumdumaya pulled away from Mjaaseth by winning the 6th and 7th holes before wrapping up the match on the 8th.
With the score all square heading into the afternoon session, USC battled with the No. 7 team in the nation with close matches across the board. Yet the Trojans couldn't get over the hump. With the Sun Devils leading 5-2, the final four matches all came down to the wire. But the Trojans came up empty as Buchanan's match finished all square, while Dominguez, Safa and Stock fell in their respective matches.
