No. 24 Men's Golf Completes First Round of the Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — The No. 24 USC men's golf team is in seventh place through the first round of the Southwestern Invitational, held at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. on Monday, Jan. 26.
The Trojans turned in fourth place before finishing in seventh place with a 288 (+7) at the par-70, 6,753-yard course. Junior Nicolas Dominguez leads the way for USC in a six-way tie for ninth place with a 69 (-1). Host school, No. 15 Pepperdine, leads the way with a 273 (-7) at their home course.
Dominguez led the team with five birdies en route to posting his fifth under par round of the season. The junior had two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine before finishing the round with three birdies on the back side — including a birdie on hole 9 to wrap up the day. So far, he is the only Trojan under par.
Graduate senior Luke Stock is tied for 22nd place with a 71 (+1) thanks to recording three birdies in the first round. Back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 helped negate two early bogeys on the front side, then Stock stayed at par for the first seven holes of the back side before a double-bogey on No. 8 pushed him over par. Like Dominguez, Stock wrapped up the day with a birdie on No. 9.
Sophomores Jack Buchanan and Jaden Dumdumaya finished with 74s (+4) to tie for 42nd in the field. Buchanan had two birdies in the first four holes — Nos. 11 and 13 — but four bogeys and one double-bogey pushed his score over par. Dumdumaya had four bogeys on the front side but just two bogeys on the back side while finishing with two birdies.
Senior Antonio Safa had the team's lone eagle of the day on No. 12 and two birdies, but found trouble on the back with four double-bogeys and one quadruple-bogey to shoot 80 (+10) for the day.
