No. 5 USC Women's Soccer Shuts Out CBU 4-0 in Rawlinson Opener
August 17, 2025 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – Playing in the first ever game at the brand-new Rawlinson Stadium, the No. 5 USC women's soccer team put on a dominant performance against California Baptist, beating the Lancers 4-0 in front of a sellout crowd.
Ines Derrien scored twice as the Trojans put up a pair of goals in each half to open the 2025 season with a victory. USC held CBU to just three shots in the match, outshooting the visitors 17-3 overall.
Jaiden Anderson opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as she converted a penalty kick after CBU was called for a handball in the box. Derrien netted her first goal of the afternoon just under four minutes later, finishing a long ball played forward from Tanna Schornstein.
Derrien and Schornstein picked up where they left off in the 59th minute, as Schornstein headed a cross from Maribel Flores over to Derrien for a one-time shot past a diving CBU keeper. Flores would cap the scoring for USC, finishing off a beautiful sequence of one-touch passes to make it 4-0.
Bella Grust made three saves to pick up the shutout in goal as all three Lancer shots were on target. USC also held a 7-1 corner kick advantage. A total of 22 Trojan players saw time in the match.
USC's four-goal victory was the widest margin of victory in a regular season opener for the program since 2007 when the Trojans beat Weber State 5-1 and was the first 4-0 shutout in an opener since 1999, when USC beat UC Irvine 4-0.
