USC Lacrosse Head Coach Lindsey Munday Leads USA to Sixes Gold at World Games
August 11, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
The U.S. women avenged one of their rare international losses to claim gold medals in a 16-8 win over Canada
CHENGDU, China – USC lacrosse head coach Lindsey Munday led the United States women's sixes national team to a 16-8 victory over Canada to capture gold medals at The World Games on Monday, Aug. 11.Â
Â
The U.S. women avenged one of their rare defeats in international play, doubling up the Canadians in the win. Canada had defeated the USA, 14-12, at the 2022 World Games, but the U.S. led wire-to-wire to complete a dominant run through the tournament field in 2025.
Â
The U.S. went 5-0 in the tournament, outscoring opponents by a 129-50 count. This marked the second gold medal for the U.S. in three appearances at The World Games but was its first in the sixes discipline. The U.S. beat Canada, 11-8, in the 2017 World Games in Poland, which was played using a 10v10 field version of the sport. Canada won the sixes competition in 2022.
Â
The U.S. now holds the top ranking in all four major women's disciplines of the sport led by World Lacrosse. Its senior field team won the 2022 world championship in Towson, Md.; its U20 field team won the 2024 world championship in Hong Kong, China; and its box team won the 2024 world championship in Utica, N.Y.
Â
Under Munday's direction, the U.S. opened the Games with a 32-11 win over Ireland to average one goal per minute played. In their second game, the U.S. women took down longtime rival Australia, 25-13. Team USA closed out a 3-0 run in pool play on a 32-8 victory over Czechia. The team then recorded a 24-10 win over Japan in the semifinals to move into the championship game with Canada.
Â
Munday's Trojans went 10-7 with a 3-5 mark in conference games in USC's first season as members of the Big Ten in 2025. The Trojans finished sixth in the league standings and earned a spot in the conference tournament where it fell to No. 12 Michigan in the quarterfinals.
