USC Women’s Golf Uses Strong Front Nine To Remain Fourth at NCAA Lexington Regional
May 06, 2025 | Women's Golf
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC women's golf utilized a counting score of four-under par on the front nine to propel them to a 289 (+1) score during the second round of the NCAA Lexington Regional. The Trojans are one-over par overall as they are 4th amongst the 12 teams on Tuesday, May 6 at the Keene Trace Golf Club.
USC hosts two players within the top ten, as freshman Kylie Chong and junior Catherine Park remained in the top 10, with both players being one-under par overall. The Trojans on the second day counted scores of 72-72-72-73 (289), as they are four strokes above the projected cut line. No. 3 Florida State continues to lead the tournament after round two at 14-under par.
Chong was one of three Trojans to produce a 72 (E), and after two rounds, she is tied with Park for the team lead at one-under par. The freshman continues to climb the leaderboard as she is now tied for 7th in the field. Chong started the day in the hole bogeying No. 10 – the Trojans started on the back nine – and ended the back portion as one of two Trojans to make a 36 (E). The freshman followed it up with an even-par front nine to remain under par.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker and senior Xin (Cindy) Kou were the other two Trojans with a 72 on the course today. Shoemaker is tied for 15th on the leaderboard at one-over par, and Kou is tied for 29th at three-over par overall. Shoemaker had an even quell round with two birdies and two bogeys – one on each side of the course. Kou on the other hand played a massive part in the Trojans success on the front nine, as her round was highlighted by an eagle on the par five No. 5. Kou posted a 34 (-2) on the front nine and a 38 (+2) on the back to remain even on the day.
Park continues to lead alongside Chong, as she is within the top 10 in the field after day two. The junior was the last counting score for the Trojans as she was one-over par in the second round. Park's struggles came strictly from the back nine, as she was three-over par with a bogey and a double bogey, while she was two-under par on the front side.
Freshman Jasmine Koo rounds out the team, as she is seven over par, tying her for 42nd in the field. Koo had a better round today, as she carded a 73 (+1), and like Park, had more success on the front compared to the back nine. The freshman tallied a 33-40 combo, as she heads into the final day hoping to get a counting round for the tournament.
USC will be back in action with the third and final round of the NCAA Lexington Regional starting at 5 a.m. PST/8 a.m. EST tomorrow at the Keene Trace G.C.
