USC Rowing Advances Three Boats to Grand Finals at Big Ten Championships

The Trojans qualified the 2V8+, 2V4+ and 3V4+ boats to Sunday’s grand finals.
INDIANAPOLIS — The USC women's rowing team wrapped up the first day of racing at its first appearance at the Big Ten Championships with three boats earning spots in Sunday's grand finals. All six USC boats will return to the water for tomorrow's races. USC's 2V8+, 2V4+ and 3V4+ will hit the water for the grand finals, while the 1V8+, 1V4+ and 3V8+ will compete in the petite finals at the Indianapolis Rowing Center.

1V8+
The Trojans faced stiff competition in their heat as two boats took an early lead. USC battled for third position, crossing the halfway mark at 3:13.47. Despite rowing in the challenging outside lane, the crew maintained a steady pace throughout. In a tight contest with Minnesota down the stretch, USC crossed the finish line at 6:46.127 to advance to tomorrow's petite final.
USC First Varsity Eight — Coxswain: Mia Kirkorsky, Stroke: Viktoryia Vasilyeva, 7: Gerli Endrekson, 6: Annabel Aron, 5: Francesca Garijo, 4: Olivia Aceves, 3: Chloe Amling, 2: Alex DeLisle, Bow: Louise Gyssels
2V8+
USC's 2V8+ delivered one of the day's most exciting performances, staying close to Ohio State while fighting for the third final qualifying spot. As the race entered the final 500m, the Trojans found another gear, overtaking their competition and earning the last qualification spot with a time of 6:48.545, edging out the fourth-place boat by less than a second for a grand final ticket.

Engaged in an ongoing battle with Minnesota's crew throughout the heat, USC finished fourth with a time of 7:31.009. The Trojans crossed the line almost 20 seconds ahead of the fifth-place boat, taking a spot in Sunday's petite final.
USC Varsity Four — Coxswain: Ellen Ariathurai, Stroke: Gracie Regan, 3: Maeve Clifford, 2: Olivia Wilson, Bow: Abbie Diemer
2V4+
The Trojans in the 2V4+ displayed consistency, passing the 500m mark at 1:52.85. Before reaching the halfway point, USC created separation from the fourth and fifth position boats and continued to widen this advantage throughout the race. With calm and composed rowing, the Trojans solidified their third-place finish with a time of 7:38.171, qualifying for Sunday's grand final.
USC Second Varsity Four — Coxswain: Sage Saperstein, Stroke: Chloe Sorensen, 3: Shayna McCarthy, 2: Zoe Muhlner, Bow: Kiki George
3V4+
The 3V4+ crew showed steady determination in a three-boat battle for position. After trailing at the 1000m mark, the Trojans mounted an impressive comeback, overtaking Minnesota's boat to move into the third position. Coxswain Roxy Andras guided the crew through the closing stages, as the boat shifted into a higher gear to secure third place with a time of 7:56.018, earning a spot in Sunday's grand final.
