USC Baseball Falls at Washington, 5-3

SEATTLE – The USC baseball team dropped its opener at Washington on Thursday night, falling 5-3 to the Huskies.
USC falls to 33-19 overall and 17-11 in Big Ten play. Washington improves to 27-25, 15-12.
The Trojans jumped in front early, loading the bases in the first and pushing across a run, and then adding two in the third to grab a 3-0 lead. Abbrie Covarrubias drove in the run in the first on an infield single, and then Augie Lopez and Kade Higgins singled in runs in the second.
Washington came back with a pair of runs in the fifth to make it a one-run game and then Malakhi Knight hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Huskies ahead 5-3.
Andrew Johnson got the start and gave up two runs in his 5.0 innings of work. Caden Hunter allowed the three-run homer in the sixth, but then tossed 2.0 scoreless the rest of the way. USC left 10 runners on base in the game.
