USC’s Dumdumaya Remains in Top 10 as Trojans Move up the Leaderboard to Seventh at NCAA Tallahassee Regional
May 13, 2025 | Men's Golf
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Freshman Jaden Dumdumaya continues to have his sights on his first career top 10 finish after round two, tied for 9th at three-under par. USC sits 7th place out of 14 teams, just six strokes out of a top-five placement, at five-over par (581 = 293 + 288) on Tuesday, May 13, at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The Trojans improved on their back-nine struggles from day one, ending one-under par on the back nine and one-over par on the front with four counting scores of 72-72-72-72 (288). USC moved up three spots in the field, now six strokes away from the fifth spot on the leaderboard - the top five advance to the NCAA Championship Finals. The host school, Florida State, remains the leader after the second round at 21 under par.
"We set our minds to be more aggressive today and stay focused throughout the round. After we played yesterday, that gave us a baseline of how the course was going to play. I expect the tournament to be tight tomorrow and we will focus on our game plan and the things we can control,"said Head Coach Mark Hankins.
Across the board, USC counted even-par scores, as they continue to be led by Dumdumaya. The freshman posted his ninth round of par or better for the season, as he utilized four birdies and four bogeys, two on each side of the course. At three-under par – tied for 9th – the freshman is looking at an opportunity for his first career top ten, as the Trojans enter the final day.
Senior Gavin Aurilia was even-par on both sides of the course, as he rattled off five birdies and five bogeys. On the back nine, Aurilia started strong with two birdies – holes No. 12 and 14 – but fell back to even par after bogeys at No. 16 and 18. The front side was up and down as the senior only posted three pars, while the rest were either birdies or bogeys. Aurilia is two over par for the tournament and tied for 28th.
Freshman Jack Buchanan is third on the team at three-over par, tying him for 37th. Buchanan's round peaked early, as he eagled his second hole of the day, par five No. 11. The freshman utilized an exceptional second shot that put the ball within ten feet of the hole before rolling it in for a three. Buchanan would add one more birdie and two bogeys on the back to record a 35 (-1). He would have one bogey on the front for 37 (+1) and even par (72).
Junior Antonio Safa recorded four birdies and four bogeys on the day, and is tied for 48th at five-over par. Safa had three pars on the back nine, as he opened the round with a bogey, but was able to post back-to-back birdies on holes No. 15 and 16. The junior made limited mistakes on the front nine, as he finished his 72 after making one birdie and one bogey on the front side.
Sophomore Jack Jerge was one stroke outside of the counting scores, as he was one over par on the day. Jerge struggled on the back nine at four-over par with three bogeys and one double bogey, before going three-under par on the front nine. The sophomore is four over par, tying him for 42nd after two rounds of play.
The Trojans will need to make up a six-stroke difference to advance to the NCAA Championship final site, as they will have that chance in the final round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional starting at 4:30 a.m. PST/7:30 a.m. EST tomorrow (May 14) in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
