IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 25 USC baseball team dropped the second game of its three-game series with Michigan State on Saturday, falling 15-5 in eight innings against the Spartans.
USC falls to 32-18 overall and 16-10 in Big Ten play on the season. Michigan State improves to 27-22, 12-14.
The Trojans answered a one-run first inning by Michigan State with three of their own in the bottom of the first, but the offense went cold after that. Andrew Lamb and Jack Basseer each drove in runs in the first for USC.
The Spartans scored three runs in each of the next two innings to take back the lead. Michigan State would plate three unearned in the second and then three runs on four hits in the third. Three more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth made it 12-3 in favor of the visitors.
USC got a pair back in the seventh, with Brayden Dowd and Ethan Hedges driving in runs, but the Spartans answered with a three-run eighth. USC was unable to come up with a run in the bottom half of the inning as the game would end due to the 10-run rule after seven innings.
