April 11, 2025 | Men's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – USC men's tennis suffered a narrow defeat Friday night, falling 3-4 to the Michigan State Spartans at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.
The Trojans got out of the gate strong, with junior Oscar Weightman and freshman Connor Church claiming the first doubles point with a 6-4 victory on court two. The seasoned pairing of graduate Tristan Bradley and senior Peter Makk followed suit, winning 6-3 on center court to give the Trojans their first point in the match.
The Trojan's momentum carried into the early part of singles play, with stalwart veteran senior Karl Lee storming to a quick straight-set victory on court five. The Spartans responded with a series of victories, the first coming on court two, which No. 9 Ozan Baris took in straight sets.
A win on court six tied the match at 2-2 before Michigan State moved into the lead after a tight win on court four. No. 23 Makk responded with a strong-ranked win over No. 31 Aristotelis Thanos on the center court to even the match at 3-3.
The match was decided on court three, where Weightman faced off against No. 94 Max Sheldon. The two players each claimed a set, forcing a third. However, Weightman was forced to withdraw from the match due to injury, giving Michigan State the win.
The Trojans will return to action on Sunday, April 13, where they will face off against No. 21 Michigan on Senior Day. The first serve will take place at noon.
