USC Baseball Takes Down San Diego State, 9-6

Jack Basseer had three hits and drove in three runs as USC moves to 16-11 on the season. San Diego State falls to 9-20.
The Aztecs jumped out of the gates with two runs in each of the first two innings, grabbing an early 4-2 advantage. USC scored two runs on a single by Basseer and an SDSU error in the bottom of the first, and would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth on another Basseer knock, this time a double down the third base line that drove in two.
USC grabbed the lead an inning later, when Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek beat out an infield single to drive in Abbrie Covarrubias. The Trojans loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and John Elliott drew a walk to push one across, followed by an RBI single from Brayden Dowd to make it 7-4.
The Aztecs would cut it to a one-run game with a two-run double by Nevan Noonan in the eighth, but USC answered with two runs in the bottom of half of the inning. Dowd and Ethan Hedges each had RBI singles to make it a 9-6 ballgame.
After San Diego State scored in each of the first two innings, Jackson Baker came in and tossed 2.0 scoreless relief innings to allow USC to tie it up. Jude Favela and Sax Matson tossed the next two frames, keeping the Aztecs off the scoreboard as well, as the Trojans took the lead. Brodie Purcell got the final five outs of the game to pick up his second save of the season.
