No. 3 USC Beach Volleyball Exacts Revenge on No. 5 Stanford

The Trojans took down the Cardinal in a 3-2 finish to avenge a loss from earlier this season
STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 3-ranked USC beach volleyball team (11-3) got its revenge with a 3-2 victory over No. 5 Stanford (8-5) to conclude the MPSF Midseason Rumble at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium on Saturday, March 8.
The Cardinal had defeated the Trojans on the second day of the season in a 3-2 decision at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Classic in Honolulu. With the win, USC improves to 16-2 all-time against Stanford with two more regular-season meetings still ahead. The Trojans go to 26-5 in duals played in Northern California cities—including a 21-5 mark at Stanford.
Still dealing with the unavailability of several starters, the Women of Troy employed a fourth different lineup in as many duals. In her return to action, freshman Kennedy Coakley reunited with sophomore Ashley Pater to claim a 21-17, 21-14 win over Charlotta Bell and Taylor Wilson at the No. 2 position for the first point of the dual.
In the only match to go three sets, sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow paired for the first time to get a 21-19, 29-31, 15-11 win over Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell in a marathon match at the No. 4 position.
Stanford got on the board with a win at court five when Daria Gusarova and Emmy Sharp took down sophomore Jess Horwath and junior Mabyn Thomas, 21-11, 21-18, yet another USC pair playing together for the first time.
Moments later, the Trojans' top pair of sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White collected a 21-18, 21-17 win against Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra to improve to 9-3 on the season and seal the dual victory.
Stanford added its second point to the board when Kelly Belardi and Avery Jackson beat junior Delaney Karl and graduate Ella Larkin in straight sets, 21-19, 21-16. In a non-scoring exhibition match, junior Ava Brizard saw her first collegiate action as she paired with sophomore Grace Hong to face Indigo Clarke and Logan Tusher. The pairs split sets with Stanford winning the first, 21-10, and USC the second, 21-17.
Next week, the Women of Troy head to the East Coast for the FAU Beach Invitational hosted by Florida Atlantic (March 15-16) at the Pompano Beach Pier in Pompano Beach, Fla. USC will also take on TCU and Palm Beach State College in a pair of duals at Riviera Beach, Fla., on March 18. The dual with PBSC will be scored as an exhibition contest.
