No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball Flies Over Eagles in First Dual at FAU Beach Invitational
March 15, 2025 | Women's Beach Volleyball
The Trojans overcome a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Eagles on Pompano sand
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked USC beach volleyball team (12-3) came back from down two points in a dual with Florida Gulf Coast (5-8) to secure a 3-2 win in the Trojans' first match in the FAU Beach Invitational at the Pompano Beach Pier on Saturday, March 15.
Â
The Women of Troy have won three straight duals and move to 3-0 all-time in meetings with the Eagles. It was USC's first dual win after falling behind, 2-0, since a victory over a No. 1-ranked UCLA team in 2023 (March 5). The Trojans go to 24-2 all-time in the state of Florida with a 31-5 mark when they play in the Eastern Time zone.
Â
USC's top pair of sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White delivered the clinching point to break a two-all tie in the dual on a 21-15, 21-16 win over Nicole De Oliveira and Kaitlyn Luebbers. Henson-White become the first Trojan duo to reach double-digit wins this season as the pair moves to 10-3 overall with a three-match win streak in hand.Â
Â
Down three starters and utilizing just two pairs with more than one previous match experience together, the Trojans went down, 2-0, to the Eagles. FGCU captured the first point of the dual from the No. 5 position where Sydney Majick and Erin Miller defeated first-time partners freshman Calinda Kok and sophomore Kaylee Young in straight sets, 21-15, 22-20.
Â
The Eagles collected a second point with a win at pair four when Andrea Dietz and Mia Thompson took down sophomore Jess Horwath and graduate Ella Larkin in the narrowest of two-set results, 22-20, 21-19. Horwath-Larkin had played together previously just one time and were paired at the No. 5 position in a dual against TCU.
Â
USC got on the board with a win at the threes when sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow paired for just the second time to complete a 21-17, 21-10 win over Alexis Keeter and Ava Lilliquist. The Trojans pulled even with a win from the No. 2 position as freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Patercollected a 21-16, 21-8 win over Jaci Carpenter and Emma Soncrant to push their win streak to five matches for a 9-2 overall record.
Â
In a non-scoring exhibition match, freshmen Macy Bolyard and Calla Tufto defeated Lilly Hafner and Mollie Thomas, 21-18, 21-13.Â
Â
The Trojans play back-to-back duals on the first day of the FAU Beach Invitational and will have to take on No. 15 Stetson (11-4) in a 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. PT) dual at the Pompano Beach Pier on Saturday (March 15).Â
