Outside hitter Dillon Klein led the Trojans with 17 kills on .429 hitting to help USC get a 3-0 win over the Cougars
PROVO, Utah – The No. 5 USC men's volleyball team (13-2, 4-0 MPSF) swept No. 6 BYU (12-6, 2-2) in straight sets (27-25, 26-24, 25-20) at Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 8. It was the Trojans' first 3-0 sweep of the Cougars in Provo since 1991 and has USC off to its best start in league play since a 6-0 start in 2015. The win is also the Trojans' sixth over a ranked opponent and their second over a top 10 foe this season.

- Jr. OH Dillon Klein led USC with 17 kills (2e, 35att) and hit .429 to go with four blocks (one solo) and had three digs and a service ace. It was his 11th time this season in double-digit kills (52nd of his career).
- Fr. OH Sterling Foley tallied nine kills (1e, 15att) for .533 hitting to go with five digs, two blocks, and an ace.
- So. S Caleb Blanchette dished out 37 assists to lead the Trojans to their 14th match over .300 hitting. He also had four digs, three blocks, and a kill.
- Fr. MB Parker Tomkinson had seven kills (1e, 9att) and hit .667 with two blocks and three digs.
- Gr. MB Guy Genis scored five kills on 10 swings (0e, .500) and led all Trojans with six blocks.
- Fr. LIB Johnny Dykstra put up five digs and had a pair of assists.
- Fr. OPP Christian Connell came off the bench to contribute four kills (1e, 8att, .375) with three blocks and two digs.
- For the Cougars, Luke Benson led all players with 18 kills on .630 hitting while Miks Ramanis and Keoni Thiim each added 12 kills apiece. Thiim had seven digs while Ramanis added two service aces and two blocks.Â
- USC hit north of .300 for the 14th time in 15 matches and were just shy of eclipsing the .400 mark as the Trojans finished at .394 to BYU's .305. The Trojans also had the edge in blocks (11.0-4.5) to log their eighth match in double-digits.
- Foley tallied his fourth kill to break a 25-all tie and then Klein collected his fifth on a pipe set from Blanchette to close out a 27-25 first-set win. The Trojans and Cougars were tied 15 times and USC led by as many as three before a winner was decided. USC hit .364 in set one with 16 kills (4e) on 33 attacks and dug up 13 balls to help slow a BYU attack that had 18 kills (5e) on 38 swings for a .342 hitting percentage. Benson had nine of his kills in set one and Ramanis had six.
- The Trojans trailed by as many as five points at 17-12 in set two but erased that deficit and came out on top with a 26-24 win thanks to a 4-0 run to end it. Klein racked up 10 kills in the second including back-to-back kills on overpassed Josh Friedman serves. USC hit .324 in the second and had 15 kills (4e, 34att) to outpace BYU's .222 with 12 (6e, 27att).
- Six different Trojans registered kills in the third set led by Tomkinson's four-kill performance. USC hit .519 with 15 kills (1e) on 27 swings and put up three blocks to hold the Cougars to .333 hitting (15k, 5e, 30att). The score was tied nine times through 18 rallies before USC broke away on a 4-0 run to claim the lead. BYU got no closer than two points as USC rolled to a 25-20 win to seal the sweep. Thiim had seven kills and Benson poured in five more, but it wasn't enough to slow the Trojans' bid for the 3-0 win.
- USC heads to Honolulu for the Outrigger Invitational at Stan Sheriff Center next week (March 13-15). The Trojans take on No. 19 Penn State (March 13), No. 12 Ball State (March 14), and then tourney host No. 3 Hawai'i (March 15). The USC-UH match will be shown live on ESPN+ and Spectrum Sports on the islands.
- USC improved to 29-51 all-time against BYU and has won four straight matches over the Cougars. It was the Trojans' first 3-0 sweep of BYU in Provo since 1991.
- The Trojans improved to 6-1 in road matches this season.
- USC hit north of .300 for the 14th time in 15 matches this spring.
- The Trojans reached double-digit blocks (11.0) for the eighth time this season.
- USC earned its sixth win over a ranked opponent and got its second victory over a top 10 foe.
