No. 14 USC Women’s Tennis Stalls Out Against No. 12 Ohio State

Trojans drop third consecutive conference match.
Columbus, Ohio – The No. 14 ranked USC women's tennis team suffered its third straight loss on Sunday morning, falling 4-1 to No. 12 Ohio State.
With the loss, USC drops to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Trojans came out swinging in doubles, grabbing back-to-back wins on courts one and two to take the early lead. USC's No. 5 ranked duo of Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper downed the No. 15 ranked pair of Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry 6-4 on center court before Jana Hossam and Sloane Morra took down the Buckeye duo of Audrey Spencer and Nao Nishino 6-3 on court two. With the doubles point captured and play suspended, action on court three was paused with Emma Charney and Parker Fry tied at five-games-all against Ohio State's Sydni Ratliff and Sophia Cisselgnatiev.
USC stalled out as singles play began, with Ohio State winning four first sets. Playing with six ranked singles players, the momentum continued in favor of the Buckeye's as No. 98 ranked Shelly Bereznyak beat Trojan Jana Hossam 6-2, 6-3 on court five to even the match score. Ohio State's No. 111 ranked Sydni Ratliff downed Lily Fairclough 6-3, 6-2 on court three moments before No. 122 Nao Nishino beat USC's No. 82 ranked Immi Haddad 6-3, 6-2 on court four to put the Buckeye's one point away from a win. Playing at No. 2 singles, No. 8 ranked Luciana Perry beat USC's No. 69 ranked Emma Charney 6-3, 6-3 to clinch to match for Ohio State.
Trojans Grace Piper and Maia Sung were the lone Trojans to win a set against the Buckeyes. Piper claimed her first set on center court 6-4 and Sung won hers 6-3 on court six.
USC now returns to Los Angeles for a pair of Big Ten duals next weekend at Marks Stadium against Minnesota on Saturday (12 p.m. PT) and Wisconsin on Sunday (12 p.m. PT).
