USC Baseball Drops Slugfest to No. 19 UC Irvine, 12-9

USC falls to 14-10 on the season while UC Irvine moves to 18-5.
Both offenses came out of the gates hot, with the teams combining for 17 runs in the first four innings. USC struck first with two runs in the opening frame and then after the Anteaters tied the game in the top of the second, the Trojans scored five in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-2.
Ethan Hedges and Adrian Lopez each had RBI doubles in the first and then Lopez added a three-run homer in the second. Andrew Lamb also added a solo home run in the third inning.
UCI answered with four runs in the third and then took the lead with three in the fourth to make it a 9-8 game. The teams would trade runs in the seventh, with each getting a sacrifice fly.
The Trojans loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a pair of hit-by-pitches and one walk. The Anteaters got out of the jam, however, getting a strikeout, a diving catch at second and then a groundout to third.
UCI scored two runs in the ninth on a ground-rule double by Zach Fjelstad.

USC hits the road against Indiana this weekend, with the three-game series in Bloomington starting on Friday. The first two games at Indiana will be broadcast on B1G+, with Sunday's finale against the Hoosiers on the Big Ten Network.
