USC Baseball Falls in Ninth to Cornhuskers

IRVINE, Calif. – The USC baseball team rallied to take a lead into the ninth, but Nebraska came back for two runs in the final inning to beat the Trojans 6-5 on Saturday afternoon in Irvine.
USC had a pair of runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to push a run across. The Trojans fall to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play. Nebraska improves to 10-12, 2-6.
USC grabbed the early lead with single runs in the first and third innings, but Nebraska put up four runs in the fourth to go ahead 4-2.
The Trojans rallied for three runs in the sixth, loading the bases and getting infield singles from Jack Basseer and Maximo Martinez to take a 5-4 lead. It was Nebraska who would load the bases in the top of the ninth, getting a two-out, two-run single from Devin Nunez to plate the winning run.
The first two batters reached for USC in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout and then double play on an infield fly ended the game.
