USC Baseball Falls at UCLA, 5-1
March 02, 2025 | Baseball
WESTWOOD, Calif. – Coming off a big win over No. 14 Vanderbilt on Saturday, the USC baseball team stumbled against crosstown rivals UCLA on Sunday, falling 5-1 to the Bruins in a non-conference contest.
USC falls to 9-2 with the loss, while UCLA moves to 9-3.
The first half of the afternoon was a pitcher's duel, with UCLA manufacturing just a single run in the second inning. The Bruins' Roch Cholowsky broke things open for the home team, however, with a three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth. The Bruin shortstop had two homers in the game, adding a solo-shot in the seventh.
USC got on the board thanks to an RBI single from John Elliott that scored Augie Lopez in the top of the seventh. The Trojans had a chance for more in the inning with a pair on for Ethan Hedges, but his hot shot was snagged at short by Cholowsky and thrown to third for the force to end the frame. USC also had a runner thrown out at home in the fourth on a double by Lopez.
The Trojans put two runners on in the ninth, but left both aboard to finish the game.
