It’s the fifth one for the standout USC freshman.
USC freshman attacker Emily Ausmus is now up to five MPSF Newcomer of the Week awards, going back-to-back in the last two weeks after another dominating performance in the pool for the No. 2 Trojans.
Ausmus continued her scoring streak and broke USC's record for goals scored by a true freshman during USC's 4-0 run through the Aztec Invitational, where she churned out 12 goals, eight assists, eight drawn exclusions, four steals and two field blocks. Ausmus had multiple-goal outings in all four games, topping out with four goals and five assists in an 18-7 win over No. 16 Michigan.
She had three goals and an assist in USC's opening 15-9 win over No. 12 Princeton and had two goals and two steals in an 18-7 win over Bucknell. The next morning, Ausmus had a hat trick and two assists in a 17-10 win over No. 8 Harvard. That three-goal effort was the one that broke the record for most goals scored by a USC true freshman, which was held by Paige Hauschild (68). With three more goals scored vs. Michigan, Ausmus now has 75 goals scored this season — the sixth most single-season goals by a Trojan.
Ausmus and her Trojans have two more tests this week, first heading to Berkeley for an MPSF meeting at Cal on Saturday (March 22) at 1 p.m. The Trojans will then return to Uytengsu Aquatics Center to set up for a nonconference clash against Brown at 1 p.m. on Sunday (March 23).
