No. 4 USC Sweeps No. 20 Georgia State to Close Pompano Play

The Women of Troy win their sixth straight dual and finish 4-0 at the FAU Beach Invitational
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked USC beach volleyball team (15-3) completed play at the FAU Beach Invitational with a 5-0 win over No. 20 Georgia State (8-8) at Pompano Beach Pier on Sunday, March 16.

The win makes it six straight dual victories for the Women of Troy who move to 7-0 all-time against the Panthers. The Trojans also improve to 27-2 in the state of Florida and to 34-5 when they play in the Eastern Time zone. The 5-0 sweep is the 159th all-time for USC; the 89th when played at a neutral location.Â

The first dual point was scored by the first-time USC pair of freshman Macy Bolyard and graduate Ella Larkin. The pair took a 21-16, 21-14 win over Michaela Jefferson and Danica Singleton at the No. 4 position. The Trojans went on top, 2-0, with a win by their fifth pair of sophomore Grace Hong and freshman Calinda Kok. The duo beat Noalani Nuez and Kate Phelan, 21-16, 21-15; and is the first win in a dual for Hong.

USC's top pair of sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White delivered the clinching point for the second straight dual with a win over Ayla Johnson and Aree Keller, 21-17, 21-15 and improved to 13-3 overall with a six-match win streak.

USC scored a fourth dual point from court two where freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater collected a 21-17, 21-15 win against Savannah Ebarb and Destiny White. Coakley and Pater extended their win streak to eight and improved to 12-2 overall.

The 5-0 sweep went into the books when sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow defeated Ella Mozeleski and Aliisa Vuorinen in three sets, 19-21, 21-4, 15-10. In a non-scoring exhibition match, Georgia State's Ellie Neville and Courtney Smith defeated USC sophomore Jess Horwath and freshman Calla Tufto, 21-19, 21-17.

The Women of Troy head down the coast for a dual against No. 3 TCU (10-3) at Riviera Beach set for 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT) on Tuesday (March 18). The Trojans then conclude their East Coast trip with an exhibition dual with Palm Beach State College on Riviera Beach sand at 12:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. PT).
