The Women of Troy win their fifth straight dual and go to 3-0 at the FAU Beach Invitational
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked USC beach volleyball team (14-3) secured a 4-1 win over tournament host No. 13 Florida Atlantic (10-5) to go 3-0 at the FAU Beach Invitational at Pompano Beach Pier on Sunday, March 16.
The Women of Troy have won four straight duals and move to 8-0 all-time against the Owls. The Trojans also improve to 26-2 in the state of Florida and to 33-5 when they play in the Eastern Time zone.
USC's top pair of sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White scored the clinching point in the dual with a win over Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova, 21-11, 21-17, to improve to 12-3 overall and pushed their win streak to five straight matches.
Moments later, graduates Maya Gessner and Ella Larkin picked up their second win as a pair with a 21-13, 21-18 victory against Kate McLaughlin and Kendall Mignerey at the No. 3 position to post the Trojans' fourth point of the dual.
USC scored its first dual point from court four where sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow defeated Maddie Sides and Shayna Wolf, 21-13, 21-15, to even the score. The Trojans went in front, 2-1, with a win at the No. 2 position when freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater collected a 21-12, 21-16 win against Julie Honzovicova and former Trojan (2023-24) Klaire VanDeusen. Coakley and Pater extended their win streak to seven and improved to 11-2 overall.
The Owls scored the first point of the dual with a win by their fifth pair of Sydney Schroder and Shantel Starling. The duo defeated USC's first-time pair of freshmanMacy Bolyard and sophomore Grace Hong, 22-20, 21-14. In a non-scoring exhibition match, sophomore Jess Horwath and freshman Calinda Kok split sets with Reese Edwards and Mia Scanlon. The Owls won the first, 21-18, and USC took set two, 21-16.
The Trojans are back in action to conclude play at the FAU Beach Invitational at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Sunday (March 16) against No. 20 Georgia State (8-7) at the Pompano Beach Pier. On Tuesday (March 18), the Women of Troy head down the coast for a dual against No. 3 TCU (10-3) at Riviera Beach set for 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT). The Trojans then conclude their East Coast trip with an exhibition dual with Palm Beach State College on Riviera sand at 12:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. PT).
