USC Men’s Tennis Welcomes UCLA for First Big Ten Dual in Crosstown Showdown History
March 13, 2025 | Men's Tennis
The Trojans host the Bruins as they search to mimic results from earlier in the season, as they won 4-3 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center
LOS ANGELES – No. 22 USC men's tennis (8-4, 2-0 Big Ten) welcomes UCLA (4-6, 2-0 Big Ten) in the second matchup of the season, as the rivalry will start a new era by competing in its first Big Ten dual at 3 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 14 at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.
Both the Trojans and Bruins come into the second leg of the season doubleheader undefeated in conference play, as they each swept Purdue and Indiana, respectfully. USC is currently riding a streak of winning five of its last six duals, including a 4-3 victory over UCLA on Feb. 22 in Westwood.
The Trojans are led by senior leadership and freshman success, as No. 28 Peter Makk is 7-2, and freshman Matteo Morazzi is 8-1 in duals this season. Morazzi is currently on a six-match winning streak, including a 2-0 start to the conference slate. Freshman Nathan Trouve is the other ranked individual outside of Makk, as he is No. 112 in the rankings and is 7-3 in duals. Sophomore Volodymyr Iakubenko stopped a recent skid as he posted two victories last weekend, including the clinching victory versus the Boilermakers.
The Bruins have four-ranked singles competitors: No. 14 Spencer Johnson, No. 37 Rudy Quan, No. 77 Emon Van Loben Sels and No. 122 Aadarsh Tripathi. Last time up, USC went 1-2 against UCLA's current-ranked singles competitors, with Johnson not playing in the first meeting. The Bruins also have one doubles pairing in Tripathi and Alexander Hoogmartens.
While the Trojans do not have any ranked doubles players, the doubles point has been crucial as USC has won nine of the 12 doubles points this season. The Trojans claimed the doubles point against UCLA last time up, as they won in extra sets from the No. 1 court with graduate student Tristan Bradley and Makk.
First serve for this matchup will be at 3 p.m. with the game being streamed HERE.
