Trojan Kaitlyn Dobler Wins USC's First Big Ten Individual Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Trojan fifth year swimmer Kaitlyn Dobler won USC's first ever individual Big Ten title to highlight the third day of competition at the conference championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Through three days of competition, USC currently sits in fourth place with 584 points. Host Ohio State lead the way with 904.5 points, followed by Indiana (777.5) and Michigan (771).
Dobler, a seven-time Pac-12 champion, earned USC's first ever Big Ten individual title on Friday evening, claiming the 100y breaststroke in a season-best 57.41. Dobler posted the fastest winning time in the event since three-time Olympic Gold medalist Lily King won it in 55.88 back in 2019. The win marked her fifth consecutive 100y breaststroke conference title, including four Pac-12 crowns.
Sophomore Olympian Minna Abraham finished runner-up in the 200y freestyle, lowering her school record in the event as she touched second in 1:41.29. Abraham first broke the school record as a freshman, clocking a 1:41.38 at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Ella Ristic led a 1-2 finish in the bonus final of the 200y freestyle, touching first in 1:46.37, just .06 ahead of teammate Macky Hodges who finished second in 1:46.43. Vasilissa Buinaia was third in the consolation final in 1:45.76.
Competing in her second ever conference championship final, freshman Kate Miller finished eighth in the 3-meter diving competition, tallying 325.20 points. Miller was USC's lone Trojan to reach the championship final.
Caroline Famous reached the championship final in both the 100y butterfly and the 100y backstroke, finishing fourth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 100 back. Senior Genevieve Sasseville won the consolation final of the 100y butterfly in 52.07.
Sophomore Ashley McMillan earned a bronze medal in the 400y individual medley, posting a personal best 4:05.20 as she finished third in the event. McMillan clocked a 4:09.26 during prelims. Junior Claire Tuggle won the 400y IM consolation final in a career best 4:07.89
USC closed out the evening with a bronze medal worthy finish in the 400y medley relay as Famous, Dobler, Sasseville and Buinaia combined to clock a 3:28.85 for third.
