USC’s Maddie Dora and Annie Shields Earn First Big Ten Weekly Honor
February 18, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
Senior Maddie Dora posted 11 goals, and sophomore Annie Shields picked up 19 saves in the weekend sweep
ROSEMONT, Ill. – USC lacrosse senior Maddie Dora (Milton, Ga.) was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore Annie Shields (Fort Washington, Pa.) was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 11-17, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Oregon's Anna Simmons was named Midfielder of the Week. Rutger's Delainey Sutley was named Freshman of the Week.
This is the first-ever Big Ten weekly award for the Trojans, as they are competing in their inaugural year. The award comes at the forefront of a weekend sweep, as they took down California, 17-6, in Berkeley, Calif., and No. 21 Colorado, 15-6, at the same venue.
Dora propelled the USC offense during those victories, as she posted 11 goals, three ground balls and one draw control during the two-game set. The senior recorded a new career high for goals with six against the Golden Bears and followed suit with a five-goal game against the ranked Buffaloes. Dora opens the season with 14 goals in three games, as she has posted a hat trick in all three matchups for the Trojans.
Shields anchored the net on the defensive side, posting 19 saves and allowing 12 goals this weekend. The sophomore added to her stat sheet four ground balls in the two victories. Shields was a deciding factor against No. 21 Colorado, as set a new career high in saves with 12, six of which came in the fourth quarter.
This is Dora and Shields' first weekly honor from any conference.
USC (2-1) is back this weekend, as it faces two former Pac-12 members in UC Davis and Arizona State. The Trojans start the weekend at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 against the Aggies and follow that with a game versus the Sun Devils at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, with both being at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
