IRVINE, Calif. – The USC baseball team opened the season with a commanding win over George Washington on Friday night at Great Park, picking up a 15-2 victory.

The Trojans scored 10 runs in the opening frame and never looked back, holding the Revolutionaries to two runs on five hits. Caden Hunter got the start and picked up the victory after allowing just one run on one hit.

USC's 10 runs came on 10 hits in the bottom of the first, with Ethan Hedges hitting a two-run double, Kevin Takeuchi a two-run single and Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek a two-run triple. Takeuchi had two hits in the inning and seven different Trojans drove in runs.

USC added two runs in the third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings. Takeuchi, Hedges and Martin-Grudzielanek all drove in three runs and all nine USC starters recorded a hit.

Working on a pitch count, Hunter started the game by striking out the side in the first and finished with six punchouts, two walks and one run allowed on just one hit. Andrew Johnson made his collegiate debut in relief, tossing 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out five. Jude Favela followed, also making his collegiate debut, tossing a scoreless inning of relief. Sax Matson worked a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one without allowing a base hit.
