Brackins Jr. Betters His School 60m H Record In Win At Tiger Paw Invitational

Trojans have strong first day at the Tiger Paw Invitational
Johnny Brackins Jr. bettered his USC record in winning the 60m hurdles during the first day of the Tiger Paw Invitational held at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex in Clemson, S.C. today (Feb. 14).

- The senior Brackins Jr. won the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 7.48 to better his PR, school-record and NCAA-leading time. He also ranks sixth on the current world indoor 60m hurdles list. Brackins Jr. now stands alone as the sixth-fastest collegiate hurdler of all-time. He advanced out of the semifinals with the top time of 7.52 and from the prelims with the best time of 7.59. Brackins Jr. originally set the USC 60m hurdles record with a time of 7.49 at the Spokane Sports Showcase on Jan. 17.
- Senior Travis Williams placed second in the men's 60m dash final with a time of 6.62. He reached the final by running 6.58 in the semifinals and 6.65 in the preliminary round. Junior JC Stevenson also reached the final with times of 6.58 in the semis and 6.60 in the prelims, but did not run in the final.
- Junior Jassani Carter placed third in the women's 60m dash final with a time of 7.24, second among collegians. She advanced out of the prelims with a time of 7.37 and was seventh in the semifinals with a PR of 7.23. That time moved her from tied for 10th to tied for eighth on USC's all-time list in the event. Junior Dajaz DeFrand had a time of 7.25 in the prelims and 7.20 in the semis to advance to the final, but did not compete in the final.
- Sophomore Madison Whyte won her heat and placed fourth overall in the women's Orange 400m final with a PR of 51.93. Whyte moved from seventh to sixth on USC's all-time list and to fifth on the 2025 NCAA descending order list in the event. Junior Yemi John won her heat with a time of 52.31 and finished 10th overall. Former Trojan All-American Bailey Lear placed second with a time of 51.81.
- Junior William Jones had a time of 46.32 to finish eighth among collegians, 13th overall in the men's Orange 400m final. Sophomore Jacob Andrews had a time of 46.37 to finish ninth among collegians and 14th overall.
- Freshman Grace Smith competed for USC for the first time and placed 10th in the women's long jump with a best leap of 19-4.25 (5.90m).
