USC Women's Volleyball Head Coach Brad Keller Reaches 100 Wins in 3-1 Victory Over Washington

London Wijay led USC with 18 kills and Mia Tvrdy totaled 15 in the Trojans’ win over the Huskies
LOS ANGELES – Sixth-year USC women's volleyball head coach Brad Keller reached 100-career wins on Sunday, Oct. 26, when the 22nd-ranked Women of Troy (15-5, 6-4 Big Ten) collected their fourth win in a row with a 3-1 victory (25-20, 25-27, 21-25, 25-15) over Washington (9-11, 4-6) at Galen Center.

- Fr. S Reese Messer put up a career-high 48 assists and matched a career mark with 16 digs for her eighth-career double-double. She set the Trojans to .207 hitting (60k, 24e, 174att) and had three kills, three blocks, and a pair of service aces.
- So. MB Mia Tvrdy shared team-high honors with 18.0 points gained on 15 kills (2e) and four blocks (two solo). She also had a pair of digs and hit .500 on a career-high 26 attacks in her fourth contest with double-digit kills.
- RS So. OH London Wijay had 18 kills for her 12th match in double digits, added nine digs, and had a pair of assists.
- RS Jr. OH Adonia Faumuina reached double-digit kills for the fifth time with 11 and had four digs and two blocks.
- Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert dug up 15 balls for her 11th time in double digits and received serve 24 times without an error.
- Sr. MB Rylie McGinest scored seven kills (1e, 16att) and hit .375 to go with three blocks and a dig.
- Sr. LIB Gala Trubint racked up 12 digs and had three assists. It was her fourth match in double-digit digs (74th career).
- Sr. DS Dani Thomas-Nathan totaled nine digs and added a pair of kills on three swings.
- For the Huskies, Simona Mateska had 13 kills and 18 digs. Kierstyn Barton and Alexa Markley each had 11 kills. Both had double-doubles as Barton collected 11 digs and Markley had 13. Alexis Haury dished out 38 assists with 13 digs.
- USC logged a .207 hitting rate over Washington's .182 and had more kills (60-47), assists (55-43), and aces (7-3). The Huskies had the edge in digs, 74-73, and outblocked USC, 10-7.
- The Trojans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 win behind .364 hitting with 19 kills (3e) on 44 swings. Tvrdy had six of her kills in set one (0e, 9att, .667) while Wijay tallied five and Faumuina had four. McGinest also had a pair of kills. Washington had a slight 18-17 edge in set-one digs, but Messer and Wijay had four each.
- It took 13 ties and five lead changes, but the Trojans claimed a 27-25 set-two win powered by four kills apiece from Wijay and Faumuina, and three more from Tvrdy. USC hit .200 with 14 kills (7e) on 35 attempts and needed all 21.0 points to get the win. UW started hot but USC turned the tables for a 14-13 lead and went in front by as many as three at 18-15. The set's seventh tie came at 19-all and the teams went point-for-point until the Trojans secured the win.
- Set three belonged to the Huskies as UW pushed the match to the fourth with a 25-21 win. Despite hitting .100 with just 10 kills (6e) on 40 attacks, Washington held on to beat USC by putting up six blocks and adding a pair of aces from the service line. The blocks and five hitting errors kept the Trojans down at .019 hitting with 12 kills (11e) on 54 attacks. Wijay had four kills while Faumuina and McGinest each had three. USC led in the third only once—at 6-5—while the Huskies led by as many as four until the Trojans caught up at 19-all. Two late kills from Wijay couldn't stop UW from sealing the win.
- A rejuvenated Trojan team came out and closed out the win with a 25-15 win in set four. Wijay and Tvrdy each had five kills apiece to help lift USC to .286 hitting (15k, 3e, 42att). The Women of Troy broke a three-all tie with four straight points and were never threatened again. Thomas-Nathan had seven of her nine digs in the fourth while Deckert and Trubint added five each. The Trojans totaled 24 digs in the fourth set.
- The Women of Troy will close out the month with their second regular-season clash with crosstown rival No. 25 UCLA (12-8, 6-4) on Wednesday (Oct. 29) at 7 p.m. PT at Galen Center. The Battle for LA will be shown live on Big Ten Network.
- USC improved to 48-33 all-time against Washington with a 27-12 record at home. It was the Trojans' fifth straight win over the Huskies, which is the third-longest streak by USC in the series. The Women of Troy won 12 in a row (1998-2003) and won 10 in a row (1990-94).
- The Trojans moved to 10-2 at home and to 226-62 all-time at Galen Center.
- Head Coach Brad Keller collected his 100th-career win. He is the fourth USC head coach to win 100 matches and the first since Hall of Fame coach Mick Haley (2001-17).
- The Women of Troy won their fourth straight match for the third four-match win streak this fall (Aug. 29-Sept. 7, five wins; Sept. 12-21).
