USC Rowing Wins Collegiate Eight and Four at Head of the American
October 25, 2025 | Women's Rowing
The Women of Troy placed 11 boats in a top-10 spot across three races
GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The USC rowing team showed out in their season debut at the Head of the American Regatta on Saturday. The Trojans competed in the Women's Collegiate Pairs, 4+ and 8+, coming away with eight top-five finishes and winning both the 4+ and 8+ races.
"The team made a solid step today in their first race," Head Coach Kelsie Chaudoin said. "We've spent a good amount of time going at one another in pairs this fall, so for them to have the chance to race other west coast crews was a great opportunity for everyone."
The day kicked off with 10 USC pairs in the collegiate race. Five pairs finished in the top 10 with Emily Munroe and Abbie Diemer taking second place, Gerli Endrekson and Viktoryia Vasilyeva claiming third and Elena Cerrudo and Louise Gyssels finishing in fourth. The pairs were up against boats from Oregon State, Sacramento State, Washington State, Portland, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and Chico State. Overall, all Trojan boats placed in the top-25 out of 39 boats.
The momentum carried into the Women's Collegiate 8+ race with USC earning first place ahead of Oregon State and Washington State in second and third, respectively. The Trojans' B boat came in fourth and C boat earned fifth to maintain a dominant performance on the day by the Women of Troy.
To close out the day, the USC 4+ boats kept the same winning story with a first place finish as well as B and C boats coming in fifth and seventh, respectively. The Trojans held a 20-second gap over the second place finishers from Oregon State.
"Winning the 8+ and the 4+ was a good step forward, and a testament to how the entire team shows up and pushes every day. We're looking forward to getting back to work next week," Chaudoin said.
In total, 38 Trojans appeared at the Head of the American, including 11 Trojan debuts from true freshmen today. With fall competition complete, USC will turn to preparation for spring competition starting in March.
