September 29, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CARSON, Calif. – The No. 24 USC women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half and held Wisconsin scoreless to pick up a 3-0 win at home on Sunday afternoon at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Simone Jackson broke the scoreless tie and Maria Alagoa and Jaiden Anderson tacked on a goal each as the Trojans picked up their first win at home since playing the first nine games of the season on the road. USC move to 8-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in Big Ten play. Wisconsin falls to 5-3-3, 1-2-2 with the loss.
After 45 minutes of scoreless play in which each team had five shots, Jackson came on as a sub in the second half and scored what would be the winning goal in the 54th minute. Alagoa was involved as well, sending a long free kick into the area that Jackson headed over the diving keeper.
Helena Sampaio would feed Alagoa for the second goal of the game, sliding a beautiful through ball ahead to let Alagoa beat the keeper one-on-one.
The Trojans kept the pressure on all half, outshooting Wisconsin 11-3 in the final 45 minutes. Anderson was taken down in the box in the 88th minute and awarded a free kick, which she buried inside the left post.
Despite the Badgers managing eight shots in the game, Laurence Gladu did not have to make a save to pick up her and the team's sixth shutout of the season. It was just the third time this year that Wisconsin has suffered a shutout loss.

54' – USC: Simone Jackson (assisted by Maria Alagoa) – Alago sent a free kick into the area from about 30 yards out down the left sideline, and Jackson won the battle to head it in the middle of a crowd, flicking it up and over the keeper.
