September 19, 2024 | Men's Basketball
Trojans are set for an action packed inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference.
USC men's basketball has its Big Ten Conference schedule set in stone for the 2024-2025 season with the conference's release of the full schedule today (Sept. 19).
With first year USC head coach Eric Musselman at the helm and 12 new scholarship players, the USC men's basketball program will set its course toward a successful showing when the 2024-25 season gets underway.
Last year, USC finished off the 2023-24 season with a 15-18 record and went 8-12 in its final season in the Pac-12.
This year, USC begins its inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference at home against Oregon on Wed., Dec. 4. The Ducks are coming off a Pac-12 Tournament Championship win and a second-round elimination in the NCAA tournament. USC carries a 67-62 all-time record over the Ducks.
The Trojans will then travel to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies just a few days later, on Sat., Dec. 7 at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. In the teams' previous meeting, USC beat Washington in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament last season.
After three home games against non-conference opponents, USC will resume conference play on Sat., Jan. 7 against Michigan at the Galen Center. The Wolverines finished last season with an 8-24 record. Trojan forward Terrance Williams will face his former team, whom he previously spent four seasons with. This will be the third all-time meeting between both schools and the first meeting since 1982.
USC will depart for the Midwest as the Trojans clash with Indiana and Illinois on Wed., Jan. 8 and Sat., Jan. 11, respectively. Indiana closed out last season with a .500 conference record. The game will be the fifth-ever meeting between the two programs, as the Trojans and Hoosiers are 2-2 all-time. Illinois beat out Purdue and Wisconsin en route to a Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2024, before losing to UConn in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. USC holds a 6-3 all-time record against the Fighting Illini.
The Trojans will then return to the Galen Center to face off against Iowa on Tues., Jan. 14. The Hawkeyes failed to make the 2024 NCAA tournament despite finishing with a 19-15 record.
USC will host against Wisconsin four days later on Sat., Jan. 18. Wisconsin made the NCAA tournament as a 5-seed after making it to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game. January's game will be the fifth meeting between the Trojans and the Badgers - with both teams tied at 2-2.
The Trojans follow that up with a trip to Nebraska on Wed., Jan. 22. The Cornhuskers finished third in the Big Ten with a 12-8 record against conference opponents' last season. Nebraska made the NCAA tournament but lost to Texas A&M in the first round.
USC returns home for a marquee matchup against crosstown rival UCLA on Mon., Jan. 27 at the Galen Center. The Trojans and Bruins split last year's series, with USC holding an 81-75 all-time advantage over UCLA.
February play begins with another home game for the Trojans, as USC hosts Michigan State on the first of the month. Besides 2020, the Spartans have made the NCAA tournament every year since 1998. Michigan State concluded last season with a 20-15 record and a 10-10 record in conference play.
The Trojans will then hit the road to face Northwestern on Tues., Feb. 4 and Purdue on Fri., Feb. 7. The Northwestern Wildcats are coming off a NCAA tournament berth, where the Wildcats won their first-round matchup against FAU before losing to the eventual champion UConn in the second round. Purdue turned in an unblemished 16-0 record at home last season and earned the 2024 Big Ten regular season title. The Boilermakers finished runners-up in the NCAA tournament.
USC returns to the Galen Center to clash with Penn State on Tues., Feb. 11. The Nittany Lions ended last season with a 16-17 record, going 9-11 in conference play. The teams will meet for the first time since 2015, with USC in search of its first victory over the Nittany Lions.
The Trojans follow it up with a home game four days later against Minnesota on Sat., Feb. 15. This will be the seventh meeting between the Trojans and the Golden Gophers, as Minnesota holds the 4-2 all-time advantage over USC.
USC will make its way to the East Coast to take on Maryland on Thurs., Feb. 20 and Rutgers on Sun., Feb. 23. This will be the first meeting between the Trojans and the Terrapins since 1991. USC is 0-3 all-time against Maryland, but undefeated against Rutgers. Maryland and Rutgers finished with identical conference records of 7-13 in 2024.
Troy will return home to play against Ohio State on Wed., Feb. 26. The Buckeyes finished last season with a 22-14 record, but did not receive an NCAA Tournament bid. This will be the first meeting between the two since 1998.
The Trojans open up March with a trip north to familiar foe Oregon on Sat., March 1. The game will wrap up a home-and-away series between the two programs as USC is set to host the Ducks in early December.
USC will play its final home game of the season against Washington on Wed., March 5.
The regular season concludes with USC paying a visit to Pauley Pavilion for its highly anticipated second game against the Bruins on Sat., March 8. In last season's meeting at Pauley Pavilion, the Trojans beat the Bruins 62-56.
Postseason play kicks off in Indianapolis as USC will play in its first Big Ten Tournament. The conference tournament runs March 12-16 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Television selections and tip times are yet to be announced and will be listed on the USC men's basketball schedule page when finalized.
