The Women of Troy bring in a former Big Ten defender from Indiana
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team has signed transfer outside hitter and defensive specialist Grae Gosnell (Charleston, S.C./Wando HS) from Indiana ahead of the 2024 season, head coach Brad Keller announced on Tuesday, July 9.
"We're excited to add Grae to our team," said Keller. "She is a dynamic athlete and brings a competitive edge to the court with her. Grae brings a ton of experience, and we're confident she will make an immediate impact on our program this fall."
In four years at Indiana, Gosnell earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors in 2021, was named an Academic All-Big Ten Selection three times (2021-23) and achieved consecutive College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District awards (2022-23). Across four seasons, Gosnell played in 74 matches and appeared in 225 sets. She totaled 302 digs (1.34 dps), 45 kills, and 10 service aces.
As a senior, Gosnell saw action with 32 matches, 109 sets, and had nine starts. She finished the season with 166 digs, 18 assists, eight kills, and seven aces to total 15.5 points. Gosnell recorded double-digit figure digs four times, with a season-high 14 digs against Illinois. As a junior, Gosnell posted a career-high 16 digs in a win at No. 5 Ohio State, and as a sophomore, she put up a team and personal high of 11 kills at Northwestern.
The Women of Troy (19-13) received the eighth seed in the Pittsburgh quadrant of the NCAA tournament and swept UMBC in the first round before falling to site host No. 4 Pittsburgh in the second round. Under fourth-year head coach Brad Keller, the Trojans finished fifth in the Pac-12 (12-8) and were ranked 24th in the final AVCA/Taraflex Division I Coaches Poll. Outside hitter Skylar Fields received her third-career AVCA All-America award and she and setter Mia Tuaniga were each named to the Pac-12 all-conference team. Outside hitter London Wijay was chosen to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
