Four Trojans Earn ACWPC All-America Honors For USC Women’s Water Polo
May 30, 2024 | Women's Water Polo
Rachel Gazzaniga is the first USC freshman to earn All-America First Team accolades since Paige Hauschild in 2018.
Following its run to a 20th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the USC women's water polo has a set of four Trojans on the 2024 All-America list, as announced today (May 30) by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. Freshman Rachel Gazzaniga leads the group with her spot on the ACWPC All-America First Team, an accomplishment last achieved by a USC freshman in 2018 by Paige Hauschild. She's joined by first-time All-Americans Julia Janov — a senior with Third Team honors — and fellow freshman Ava Stryker, who is alongside Alejandra Aznar with Honorable Mention. It's Aznar's second All-America honor, as she also was an Honorable Mention recipient as a freshman in 2018.
In her first season as a Trojan, freshman Rachel Gazzaniga led her team in scoring, drawn exclusions and steals en route to earning her place on the ACWPC All-America First Team. She punched up 49 goals and tallied a team-high 17 multiple-goal games. Named to the MPSF All-Newcomer Team, she also earned All-MPSF Honorable Mention in her USC debut.
Senior captain Julia Janov earned her first All-America status with her spot on the Third Team, having scored in 23 of USC's 27 games in 2024. That included a scoring spurt of 15 straight games with at least as goal during the year, and she'd finish up with 45 goals. In all, she tallied 15 multiple-goal games, including seven hat tricks. Also this year, Janov was named to the All-MPSF First Team for the first conference honors of her career.
Senior Alejandra Aznar secured her second career All-America Honorable Mention after a strong final season with the Women of Troy. She matched Janov's goal count of 45 on the year, running her career scoring total to 144 to stand No. 18 all-time in career goals at USC. She also was the Trojans' assist leader while serving up 15 multiple-goal outings of her own. Aznar also was named to the MPSF All-Tournament Team, and was on the All-MPSF Second Team.
Freshman Ava Stryker locked up her ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention with a monster first season as a Trojan. She was in line with Gazzaniga in providing a team-high 49 goals on the year while standing second in assists and steals. She scored in 22 different games and served up a career-high five goals three times in 2024. Named to the NCAA All-Tournament Second Team, Stryker was also on the MPSF All-Newcomer Team and was an MPSF Newcomer of the Week.
