The two-time World Cup champion returns to national team action as the gold medal winner puts on the coaches jacket this time around
SPARKS, Md. -Â USA Lacrosse announced that current USC lacrosse head coach and two-time World Cup champion Lindsey Munday has been selected as the U.S. Women's Sixes National Team head coach. Munday's appointment will end in 2026 as she will coach Team USA in two international championships - The World Games in China (2025) and the inaugural World Lacrosse Sixes Championship - USA Lacrosse announced Tuesday, Apr. 9.Â
Â
The one-time ILWomen Coach of the Year (2016) and four-time conference Coach of the Year (MPSF; 2015, 2016/Pac-12; 2019, 2023) is officially set for the national stage. At the helm, Munday has led USC to 149 wins with a winning percentage of .709, as she was hired as the first coach in program history back in 2013. During that time, she led the Trojans to six NCAA appearances and helped USC capture two Pac-12 tournament titles, including one in the last season. Munday has produced two teams that made it to the NCAA quarterfinals, as her team in 2016 went 20-1 and followed that year by appearing in the quarterfinals in 2017.
Â
"As we look to build our U.S. national team sixes program, Lindsey brings the experience of building a program from scratch at USC," said USA Lacrosse CEO Marc Riccio. "She carries herself with professionalism and has a great understanding of the international game through her significant contributions to two gold medals."
Â
Sixes is one of the newest disciplines added to the sport that will be utilized at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. It was created to be faster-paced, as it is played on a smaller field, with only six players, a shortened game length (four 8-minute quarters), and a 30-second shot clock.Â
Â
"As someone who just loves the sport of lacrosse, I love innovation," Munday said. "Everyone is still learning, and the game is still growing. I think that is something that drew me to sixes. I'm excited to learn more about the game and to really push sixes forward so that in 2028 the U.S. will be at our very best to compete at the highest level."
Â
So far this season, Munday has led the Trojans to the top of the Pac-12, as they are 10-3 overall and are a perfect 4-0 in conference play. USC will have its toughest test this weekend as it faces Stanford in a battle of the undefeated in conference play. That matchup will occur at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 13, in Stanford, Calif.Â
