LOS ANGELES – The 13th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (11-12, 2-7 MPSF) fell to No. 6 BYU (16-7, 7-4) in four sets (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-13) at Galen Center on Friday, April 5.

KEY PLAYERS

So. OH Dillon Klein led the Trojan attack with 15 kills (5e, 35att) and hit .286 to register double-digit kills for the 18th time this season (38th in his career). He also had two digs, a block, and a pair of service aces to finish with 17.5 points.
Fr. setter Caleb Blanchette put up 25 assists to go with four digs and two blocks.
Sr. MB Kyle Paulson had five kills (1e, 11att, .364) and six blocks to total 8.0 points.
For the Cougars, Kupono Browne led with 17 kills (4e, 26att, .500) and had six blocks for a match-high 21.0 points. Luke Benson put in 12 kills (4e, 25att, .320) with three blocks. Miks Ramanis had 12 kills with four blocks and four digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans hit .375 with 11 kills in the opening frame and led by as many as four points to hold off the Cougars for a 25-22 win. BYU hit .208 with 12 kills including five from Benson and three from Ramanis. Klein and Paulson each had three kills apiece for USC and Paulson led all players with three first-set blocks.
BYU claimed a 25-21 in set two to even the match. Browne led the Cougars with six kills while Benson posted five more. Klein poured in six kills of his own and had the Trojans hitting .233 but BYU hit .333 with 14 kills to seal the win. The Cougars out-blocked the Trojans, 3.5-3.0, and edged USC, 9-7, in digs.
The Cougars led set three by as many as eight points twice and finished off a 25-19 win to go ahead, 2-1, in the match. Browne added seven kills to pace BYU in the frame. The Cougars hit .562 to top the Trojans' .043 hitting, who totaled eight kills on 23 swings (7e).
Ramanis had six of his kills in the fourth to power the BYU offense to a 25-13 win. The Cougars hit .458 to and put up two blocks with six digs to hold USC to a negative hitting percentage. Klein had three kills to lead the Trojans.

UP NEXT

USC and BYU have a rematch tomorrow (April 6) to close out regular-season home matches at Galen Center. The Trojans and Cougars meet at 7 p.m. PT on USC's Senior Night. USC will honor Jack Deuchar, Kyle Paulson, and Jackson Reed in pre-match ceremonies and the match will be streamed live on the USC live stream platform.

MATCH NOTES

USC fell to 25-51 all-time against BYU and lost its third straight to the Cougars.
The Trojans fell to 4-11 in matches with AVCA top 20 opponents this season.
