April 03, 2024 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team shut down UC San Diego on Wednesday night at LMU, holding the Tritons to one hit and no runs in a 5-0 victory.
Tyler Stromsborg led the way with 6.0 scoreless innings in the start as USC moves to 12-16 on the year. UC San Diego falls to 19-7 with the loss.
Stromsborg walked the first batter he faced and then settled in to face just one above the minimum the rest of the way, striking out five batters while allowing just one hit and a walk. Michael Ebner would throw 2.0 scoreless in relief before handing off to Josh Blum in the ninth. Ebner did not allow a baserunner and struck out two. Despite allowing an infield single, Josh Blum struck out three Tritons in the ninth to close things out.
The Trojan offense got going in the fourth inning, with Kevin Takeuchi doubling home a run. Just an inning later, it was again Takeuchi singling home two this time to make it 3-0 USC. Ryan Jackson had a sac fly in the sixth and Carson Wells singled home the fifth run of the game in the seventh.
