USC Lacrosse’s Ella Heaney and Alexis Niblock Sweep Pac-12 Weekly Awards
April 22, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
Heaney posted seven points, while Niblock had five ground balls and two caused turnovers in the 15-6 win over Colorado
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse graduate student attacker Ella Heaney (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, and junior defender Alexis Niblock (Bayport, N.Y.) was chosen for the Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of Apr. 15-21, the league announced on Monday, Apr. 22.
Heaney earned her third award this season, after tying the Trojans single game-record with six assists. The attacker also added one goal, as she tied her own career high for points in a single game. Heaney was a force as the Trojans put up 15 points, to move themselves into second place in the conference. On the defensive side, USC allowed just six goals to Colorado, which was a new season low for the Buffs. One massive piece in that defensive stand was Niblock. Niblock once again tied her career-high in ground balls with five and caused two turnovers. The junior now has 37 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers on the season.
The award is Heaney's fourth of her career and third this season (Apr. 24, 2024, Feb. 13, 2024, and Mar. 14, 2023), as she continues the tradition of USC players being honored by the conference. This is Niblock's third career weekly award and second this season (Mar. 5, 2024, and Mar. 14, 2023). The Women of Troy have claimed three Offensive Player of the Week awards this season and three Defensive Player of the Week awards.
The Pac-12 is in its seventh season of women's lacrosse. The Women of Troy have earned weekly conference honors 41 times (27 defensive and 14 offensive) to rank first among league schools. Stanford sits second with 35 awards. Colorado currently has 33, and Arizona State follows that with 25. Oregon (6), California (2) and UC Davis (1) round out the group.
