No. 17 USC Men's Swimming and Diving Finishes Fifth at Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – USC freshman Krzysztof Chmielewski finished runner-up in the 1650y freestyle to highlight Troy's final evening of action at the 2024 Pac-12 Swimming Championships.

With all swimming and diving events factored in, USC finished fifth overall in the team standings with 394.5 points. No. 1 Arizona State won their second consecutive conference title with 1036 points.Â

The evening opened with the men's 1650y freestyle as freshman K. Chmielewski touched second in 14:39.64. With the finish, he became USC's first and only student-athlete to reach the podium at this year's conference championships.Â

Trojans Griffin O'Leary (1:42.68) and Vaggelis Makyrgiannis (1:43.20) finished sixth and eighth, respectively in the consolation final of the 200y backstroke. USC also went 4-5-6-7 in the bonus final as Ronald Dalmacio (1:44.38), Sanberk Oktar (1:45.14), Paul Retterer (1:45.84), Mark McCrary (1:46.40) finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively in the C-final.Â

USC junior Artem Selin earned a spot in the consolation final of the 100y freestyle, touching eighth in the final in 44.32. During prelims, Selin clocked a 42.95. Trojan Ian Pickles also appeared in the 100y freestyle, finishing fifth in the bonus final (43.78).Â

Three Trojans swam in the consolation final of the 200y breaststroke, with Chris O'Grady (1:55.12), Ben Dillard (1:55.92) and Keller Morgan (2:00.98) finishing third, fourth and eighth, respectively in the heat.Â

The championship final of the 200y butterfly featured a trio of Trojans, with both Chmielewski brothers qualifying for the A-final. Krzysztof touched fourth in the championship final in 1:42.01 (1:41.45 prelims), while Michal Chmielewski was sixth in 1:42.42. Harry Homans was eighth in the heat in 1:44.95.Â

USC closed out the evening with a fourth-place finish in the 400y freestyle relay as Selin, Makyrgiannis, Mateo Parker and I. Pickles combined to clock a 2:54.33.Â
