The Trojans (7-3, 1-0 Pac-12) could not stop the Big Green, as they went on a 14-3 run starting at the end of the second
LOS ANGELES - The 17-ranked USC lacrosse team (7-3, 1-0 Pac-12) dropped its final non-conference matchup, as it fell to Dartmouth (5-2, 0-1 IVY), 17-12, on Monday, Mar. 18 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calf.
KEY PLAYERS:
The Women of Troy go on the road as they battle Arizona State in the desert starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 23 in Tempe, Ariz.
GAME NOTES:
KEY PLAYERS:
- Graduate student Ella Heaney and senior Claudia Shevitz led the offense, as they both picked up a hat trick in the contest. This is back-to-back games with hat tricks from both players. Heaney now has 19 career hat tricks (5th all-time) and Shevitz has 14 (tied for 11th all-time).
- Junior Lila Murray and graduate student Danielle Carson anchored the defense, as they both put up three caused turnovers. Murray had two ground balls, while Carson had three. Sophomore Kate Gerrity was the other player with multiple caused turnovers, as she had two caused turnovers and two ground balls in the matchup.
- Freshman Annie Shields made her first career start for the Women of Troy, as she had three saves in the affair.
- In the circle freshman Anna Regan won the most draw controls with four, while junior Catherine Lord and Shevitz had three each.
- The Women of Troy got off to a hot start in the affair as they scored the first three goals of the affair. USC used three unassisted goals from Shevitz, Heaney and redshirt junior Isabelle Vitale. Dartmouth would get two of them back as they started their scoring run, by taking three of the last four goals in the quarter. Most of the Trojans success in this quarter came by their way of creating mistakes by the Big Green. Dartmouth had seven turnovers, while USC only had two. This was a major factor, as the Women of Troy went into the second with a 4-3 lead.
- USC would dominate in the second as it outscored Dartmouth 5-2 and made it a 9-5 lead heading into halftime. Heaney would strike twice to begin the second, as she scored at 14:08 and 11:10 – securing her hat trick in the early goings. Shevitz would finish the scoring route with two of her own to finish the quarter, while Pelkey sat sandwiched between Heaney and Shevitz, as USC would score five straight goals. With all momentum the Trojans looked to be in control, but Dartmouth had other plans. The Big Green ended the quarter on a two run and that would start something that led all the way to the end of the game.
- Both the third and fourth can be summarized by the 14-3 run that started at the end of the second and finished with 00:00 on the clock to end the game. USC found no ways to stop the offensive attack of Dartmouth, as it struggled to put the ball in the net in the second half. A big part of this run, was the fact that USC was unable to get any saves as the Big Green converted six shots-on-goal into six goals.
The Women of Troy go on the road as they battle Arizona State in the desert starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 23 in Tempe, Ariz.

- USC is now 73-20 all-time in home games and 3-2 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
- This is the final game for the Women of Troy at Dignity Health Sports Park, the remaining home matches will take place at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in downtown Los Angeles.
- Redshirt sophomore Kailey Pelkey scored her second career goal, as she now has a two-game goal streak. The midfielder scored her first goal against UC Davis.
