The Women of Troy drop their first game of the season to the Wolverines
LOS ANGELES - The 13-ranked USC lacrosse team (3-1) fell to No. 6 Michigan (4-0), 9-3, on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calf.

KEY PLAYERS:
- Senior Shelby Tilton recorded all three of Women of Troy's goals. This is Tilton's fourth-straight game with a hat trick and the 14th of her career. This hat trick ties her for 10th in program history.
- Senior Kait Devir recorded six saves, matching her season high against Army (Feb. 9).
- Junior Alexis Niblock was the focal point of the defense and finished with one ground ball and one caused turnover.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wolverines came out strong against the Women of Troy, scoring three-straight in the first five minutes. Tilton recorded the first goal for USC nine minutes into the first quarter — her 11th goal of the season. Michigan answered with another goal, bringing the score to 4-1. Devir had two saves in the first quarter, and graduate student Sloane Murphy recorded a ground ball.
- USC was unable stop Michigan's momentum in the second quarter, allowing three more goals from the Wolverines (7-1). Tilton scored her 12th goal of the season and USC's second with a minute-and-a-half remaining in the second quarter (7-2). Devir recorded another save, and USC had two ground balls picked up by Niblock and sophomore Kate Gerrity.
- Less than a minute into the third quarter, Tilton scored her third goal of the day — 13th goal of the season — to bring the score to 7-3. Michigan was undeterred and scored two more goals, ending scoring for the game (9-3). Devir recorded another save to bring her total to four, and Devir, senior Claudia Shevits, and senior Maggie Brown all recorded ground balls.
- In the fourth quarter, no goals were recorded. Graduate student Ella Heaney picked up a ground ball with 6:20 to go, and Devir recorded two more saves.
