USC Baseball Falls to Portland in Home Opener

IRVINE, Calif. – Playing the first game in its temporary home at OC Great Park in Irvine, the USC baseball team fell to Portland, 4-0, on Friday night.
USC falls to 0-5 on the season, while Portland moves to 3-1 with the victory.
The Trojans had six hits in the game but left nine men on base in the contest. Portland scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, and then Christian Cooney hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 4-0.
Brock Blatter shined in his relief appearance for USC, striking out six of the seven batters he faced in his 2.0 innings of work. Abbrie Covarrubias also had a three-hit day at the plate.
