The sophomore also earns her second round of AP and USBWA national honors for her work in USC's win over UConn.
USC sophomore guard JuJu Watkins has scored her second Big Ten Player of the Week award following a standout all-around performance that helped her No. 7 Trojans beat No. 4 UConn for the first time in program history. Watkins scored a game-high 25 points in USC's 72-70 road win over the Huskies in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,684 at XL Center in Hartford, Conn. It was UConn's first road loss since February 2023.
Watkins' Big Ten honors were followed soon after by another round of national recognition, as the sophomore was also named AP National Player of the Week and a USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Week on Dec. 24 — her second set of such honors.
In addition to her 25 points, Watkins had six rebounds, five assists and a game-high three blocks in the win. On the defensive end, she was charged with guarding UConn's All-American senior Paige Bueckers for much of the game — Bueckers was 9-of-22 from the floor and finished with 22 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Watkins has now scored 20 or more points in 11 of USC's 12 games this season, with double digits in all 12, and has served up five assists in USC's last three games. She was last named Big Ten Player of the Week on Dec. 9 after scoring 40 points vs. CBU and 21 in USC's conference-opening win at Oregon.
