December 01, 2024 | Women's Volleyball
The Women of Troy will face UT Arlington in the first round on Thursday (Dec. 5) in Austin
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team (21-9) was awarded one of 33 at-large berths into the 2024 NCAA tournament and will make its 40th appearance in the national tourney, the NCAA selection committee announced on Sunday, Dec. 1.
Â
The Women of Troy received the sixth seed in the Penn State quarter of the bracket and will face WAC regular-season and tournament champion UT Arlington (29-2) in a first-round match on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. CT (2 p.m. PT) at Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, Texas.
In the other first-round match at the Austin site, third-seeded host Texas (18-6) will take on Southland Conference tournament champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (20-10). The winners of the two first-round contests will meet in the second round on Friday, Dec. 6.
Â
Tickets for individual rounds or all sessions are available TexasSports.com.
Â
The Women of Troy make their third consecutive appearance in the postseason tournament; the program's 40th overall. The Trojans own three NCAA titles (1981, 2002, '03) and are 129-43 (.750) all-time in the postseason with an 83-36 (.697) mark in NCAA tournament matches. USC is the winner of six national championships including the three NCAA crowns. The Women of Troy won back-to-back championships under Mick Haley in 2002 and 2003 and are the holders of three AIAW titles (1976, '77, '80) under the guidance of Chuck Erbe. USC has appeared in all but four of the NCAA's 44 annual championship tournaments (1986, 1990, 2020-21, 2021).
Â
Since the NCAA expanded to a field of 64 teams in 1998, USC has advanced to 12 regional championship matches, seven national semifinals (final four), and two national finals (both victories). Last year, the Women of Troy defeated UMBC in the first round of the tournament at the Pittsburgh site hosted by Pitt but fell to the Panthers in the second round.
