USC Women's Volleyball's Ally Batenhorst and Mia Tuaniga Tabbed for B1G Weekly Awards

The Trojans’ starting outside hitter and setter were each instrumental in guiding USC to a pair of wins over UCLA and Washington this week
ROSEMONT, Ill. – USC women's volleyball graduate outside hitter Ally Batenhorst (Houston, Texas/Seven Lakes HS) was named the Big Ten Player of the Week and senior setter Mia Tuaniga (Long Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) was chosen as the Setter of the Week, the Conference announced on Monday, Nov. 4.

Batenhorst receives her first-career nod for conference Player of the Week honors. She produced her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season (eighth and ninth career) to help USC sweep crosstown rival UCLA and take a four-set win over Washington. Against the Bruins, she had 16 kills (1e) on 28 attacks to hit a season-high .536 and picked up 10 digs and two blocks (one solo) to finish with 17.5 points. In the win over the Huskies, Batenhorst scored 10 more kills and had 10 digs with three blocks for 11.5 points. She also received serve 35 times and passed at a .914 rate. On the week, Batenhorst averaged 3.71 kills per set and 4.14 points per frame. To date, she ranks seventh in the Big Ten for kills (320) and is ninth in kills per set (3.76 kps). She also ranks fifth in total points (381.0) and is seventh in points per set (4.48 pps).

Tuaniga collects her second-career Big Ten Setter of the Week award. She was also chosen on Sept. 23. Tuaniga set USC to .362 and .315 hitting in wins over the Bruins and Huskies for the Trojans' fifth and sixth matches over .300 hitting this fall. Against UCLA, she put up 40 assists and matched her career high with six kills (.455 hitting) to go with eight digs, three blocks, and a service ace to finish with 8.5 points. In the four-set win over Washington, Tuaniga dished out 37 assists and had three kills on five swings (.600) with 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the season (35th career). She also had three blocks (one solo) and racked up five service aces for 10.0 points. It was her 19th time with three or more aces in the same match and the fifth time in her career that she has had five or more aces in the same contest. In the process, Tuaniga moved into third place at USC for career assists and now has 4,158; just 100 from reaching second all-time. She also ran her career service ace total to 146 which now ranks alone for fourth all-time in school history.

The Trojans improved to 16-6 on the season with the two wins this week and moved to 8-4 in Big Ten play. USC now heads to the Midwest for a pair of league matches this week. The Women of Troy visit Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois (15-7, 7-5 Big Ten) on Friday (Nov. 8) at Huff Hall in a 5 p.m. CT start (3 p.m. PT). USC then goes to Bloomington, Ind., to face Indiana (12-10, 5-7) on Sunday (Nov. 10) at Wilkinson Hall for a 4 p.m. ET matchup (1 p.m. PT). Both matches will be carried live on Big Ten Plus streams.
