LOS ANGELES — USC women's basketball freshman Laura Williams will be sidelined for the 2024-25 season after suffering a season-ending injury in October. A 6-foot-1 forward, Williams is a member of USC's vaunted 2024-25 freshman class, which was the top recruiting class in the nation.
"We are crushed for Laura, as you never want a young person to have to go through an injury," USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb said. "From the moment she stepped on campus this summer, Laura has impressed us with her work ethic, competitiveness and winning spirit. We will miss her on the court this year but are confident that she'll attack her rehab with those same traits, remain a huge part of our group this year, and be full strength in 2025-26."
The top-ranked high school player out of the state of Virginia in 2024, Laura Williams helped St. Paul VI continue its run of state titles during her prep career. A top-100 player in ESPN's 2024 class, Williams averaged 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game with Fairfax Stars AAU on the 2023 summer Nike EYBL circuit soon after earning First Team All-State honors.
Following surgery and rehabilitation activities, Williams is expected to return to competition for the 2025-26 season.
Ranked No. 3 in the nation, the Women of Troy are due to start their 2024-25 competition next week in an Aflac Oui-Play Game against No. 20 Ole Miss in Paris, France, on Nov. 4.
