USC Women’s Volleyball Signs Loper, Messer and Mullen

The Trojans bring in three of the top-rated prep athletes to be part of the 2025 freshman class
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball program has signed Quinn Loper (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS), Reese Messer (Olathe, Kan./Saint James Academy), and Abigail Mullen (Kansas City, Mo./Liberty HS), head coach Brad Keller announced on Thursday, Nov. 14.
"To say I am excited to welcome this group of athletes to our team is a gross understatement," said Keller. "Quinn Loper, Reese Messer, and Abigail Mullen are the types of volleyball players that form the bedrock of a successful program. We are talking about athletes whose talents are iniquitous on the court and whose IQs for this game are off the charts. Since I arrived on campus, we have been working towards re-establishing a championship program and the addition of these three incredible athletes brings us closer to sustaining and growing what we've been building at USC."
Loper is a 6-1 six-rotation outside hitter who has played for both WAVE and T-Street volleyball clubs. A four-year starter on San Clemente's varsity team, she was invited to train with the USAV National Team Development Program and helped her clubs to top 15 finishes at the Girls Junior National Championships in both the 17 and 18 Open divisions. Loper was also chosen to the Junior Volleyball Association's all-national team squad in 2024. She is the third USC player to come from San Clemente following Tatum Harvey (2015-16) and Erin Yoder (2009-12). All three attended San Clemente High School.
Messer is a 5-11 setter regarded as one of the top prep athletes at her position. She was recently named as one of 24 athletes on the AVCA's Girls High School National Player of the Year watch list and was a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee in 2023. A member of the USAV U19 National Team, Messer played for Dynasty Volleyball Club in Kansas City and helped her club to second place (2023) and third place (2022) finishes in the Open division of the GJNC. She is a three-time first-team Eastern Kansas League choice, a three-time Kansas All-State first-team selection, and a three-time PrepVolleyball All-American. Messer helped lead her high school to runner-up finishes in the Kansas state championship in 2021 and 2022 and was chosen as the MaxPreps Best Player in Kansas in 2024. Messer is the first USC women's volleyball student-athlete to hail from the state of Kansas.
Mullen is a 6-3 six-rotation pin-hitter and has been a top-rated prospect since she was a freshman in high school. Mullen has national team experience as a member of the USAV U19 and U21 National Teams and is a National Team Development Program athlete. In 2023, she helped the U.S. win gold at the FIVB U19 World Championship and guided her club to the 2021 Girls Junior National Championship in the 15 Open division where she was named to the all-tournament team. She also helped the USAV U19 team win gold at the 2022 NORCECA Pan American Cup. Mullen has played for the Dynasty Volleyball Club since 2013. She is a 2024 PrepVolleyball U17 first-team All-American and a 2025 Under Armour All-American. Mullen is a three-time all-state, first-team all-district, first-team all-conference, and academic all-state selection. Mullen is the first USC women's volleyball student-athlete to come from the state of Missouri.
The 23rd-ranked Trojans (17-7, 9-5 Big Ten) face a pair of ranked opponents this week as Galen Center hosts No. 6 Wisconsin (18-5, 12-2) on Thursday (Nov. 14) and No. 11 Oregon (18-5, 10-4) on Sunday (Nov. 17). The Women of Troy take on the Badgers at 8 p.m. PT in a match that will be shown live on Big Ten Network and the Trojans-Ducks matchup will be carried on a Big Ten Plus stream at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
