No. 16 USC Women's Volleyball Shells Terrapins in 3-0 Sweep

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 16th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (13-4, 5-2 Big Ten) completed a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-17, 25-23) of Maryland (10-8, 1-6) at XFINITY Center Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 18.

- Sr. S Mia Tuaniga dished out 34 assists and set the Trojans to a season-high .432 hitting (41k, 6e, 81att). She also had four digs, four kills, and two service aces to finish with 6.5 points.
- Fr. OPP Jadyn Livings led all players with 14 kills (3e, 26att) for her eighth match in double-digit kills and added four digs, four blocks, and had back-to-back service aces to close out the sweep for the Women of Troy.
- Redshirt So. OH Adonia Faumuina had 10 kills (2e, 15att) for .533 hitting and added a pair of digs.
- Gr. OH Ally Batenhorst had nine kills (0e, 23att) and hit .391 to go with two digs, two assists, three blocks, and two service aces for 12.5 points.Â
- Jr. LIB Gala Trubint led USC with 13 digs for her 60th-career match in double-digit digs.
- Redshirt Fr. MB Leah Ford had a team-high five blocks to go with three kills.
- For the Terrapins, Sam Csire led with 10 kills. Sydney Bryant added six kills and Samantha Schnitta had five. Eva Rohrbach also had five kills. Lily Gunter led the Maryland defense with six digs.
- USC led in all statistical categories with a 41-30 edge in kills, 39-29 in assists, 8-5 in service aces, and 8.5 to 3 in blocks.
- The Trojans led by as many as 11 points in the opening set at 19-8 and would cash in the lead for a 25-15 win. Batenhorst and Livings each scored four kills apiece and USC collected three blocks to hold the Terrapins to a negative .029 hitting percentage. Trubint had four digs and Tuaniga put up 12 assists to help the Trojans get the set-one victory.
- USC used a 4-0 run to close out a 25-17 win in the second set to lead, 2-0, in the match. The Trojans racked up 12 kills in set two to hit .524 and added five more blocks to their total to hold the Terps to .074 hitting. Livings herself had five kills while Tuaniga scored 4.5 points with two kills, two aces, and a block while putting up nine assists.
- The Trojans led for most of the third, but Maryland forced the 10th time of the frame at 20-all and then claimed the lead at 23-22 before USC got a kill from Faumuina and back-to-back service aces from Livings to complete a 25-23 win with a 3-0 run to end the match. In all, the set was tied 13 times, but the Trojans weathered the trial with .448 hitting earned on 15 kills (2e, 29att). The Terrapins hit .452 and had 15 kills (1e) on 31 swings.
- The Trojans head north to face Rutgers (5-13, 0-7) at Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway, N.J., on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT). The match will be shown live on Big Ten Plus (B1G+).
- USC improved to 5-1 all-time against Maryland with each match ending in a sweep for the winner.
- The Trojans moved to 2-1 all-time in the state of Maryland and to 20-7 in Atlantic Coast states.
- The Women of Troy have won 10 of their last 12 matches.
