USC’s JuJu Watkins Wins Eighth Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week Award

Another week of action has brought another team-leading effort from JuJu Watkins and another Pac-12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week pick for the Trojans' standout newcomer. Now with her eighth such selection in the first nine weeks of this season, Watkins has tied the conference record of total picks — and with many weeks of competition still ahead.
With a game-high 28 points vs. Oregon State and 17 vs. Oregon, Watkins has led USC in scoring in all 12 games in which she has played for the 12-1 Trojans. Also in USC's 56-54 win over then-undefeated Oregon State, Watkins recorded a career-high five blocks. Two days later in a 68-54 win over Oregon, Watkins tied her career high of six assists.
The week's wins over the Beavers and Ducks marked just the third time that USC has swept the Oregon schools at home in the Pac-12 era. Now 2-1 in Pac-12 play, the Trojans have won 16 straight home games.
Watkins and the Women of Troy remain at Galen Center this week for a Pac-12 rematch against undefeated UCLA at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 14).
