The Trojans hit .614 in a straight-set victory over the Maroon Tigers

LOS ANGELES – The 12th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (2-0) swept Morehouse College (0-3) in three sets (25-9, 25-14, 25-12) at the Galen Center Pavilion in the SIAC Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 6.

KEY PLAYERS

Fr. OH Jack Ebertin led the Trojans with eight kills (1e, 12att) on .583 hitting and added three blocks.
Redshirt Jr. OPP Jack Deuchar posted seven kills (1e, 9att) on .667 hitting and served five aces.
Fr. MB Wes Smith logged five kills on just six swings without an error to hit .833 and had three blocks.
Fr. S Caleb Blanchette dished out 23 assists to go with one dig and one block and five service aces.
Jr. OPP Luke Hobus had three kills (1e, 4att, .500) and a block.
Jr. MB Markus Olsson also had three kills on four swings (0e, .750) and racked up three blocks and a service ace.
For the Maroon Tigers, Benjamin Attles had seven kills (1e, 12att) with two digs and a service ace. Jamar Shackleford Jr. put up 13 assists. Daniel Allen had three kills. Aidan Pullian and Williams Babalola each had two kills apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans hit .614 and logged 32 kills on 44 swings (5e). USC out-blocked Morehouse, 6-0, and had more digs (10-5), assists (30-15), and aces (14-1) than the Maroon Tigers.
USC never trailed in the opening frame and hit .846 with 11 kills on 13 swings (0e) to sew up a dominant 25-9 victory. The Trojans held the Maroon Tigers to a negative .333 hitting set with just two kills. Six different Trojans had kills in the first set with a team-high three from Ebertin.
The Maroon Tigers held brief leads twice and forced six ties in the second set before USC ran off to complete a 25-14 win. Deuchar and Ebertin each recorded four kills apiece and helped the Trojans hit .500 in the frame.
USC posted four aces and had eight kills to hit .545 in the third set. Morehouse also had eight kills but was held to a .111 hitting rate as the Trojans put up two more blocks. Hobus had all three of his kills in the third set and Olsson had two.

UP NEXT

The Trojans host Harvard (0-0) next Thursday (Jan. 11) at Galen Center. The match will be shown live on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angeles with first serve set for 7 p.m. PT. USC then takes on 19th-ranked Lincoln Memorial (0-0) at Galen Center on Saturday (Jan. 13).
