No. 4 USC Women’s Swimming Sweeps UNLV 168-89 As No. 15 Troy Downs Rebels 146.5-110.5

LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 ranked Women of Troy swept UNLV 168-89 while No. 15 Troy defeated the Rebels 146.5-110.5 on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
With the wins, USC's women's squad improves to 3-0, while Troy improves to 1-2.
The Women of Troy opened the meet with a victory in the 200y medley relay as Justina Kozan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Genevieve Sasseville and Vasilissa Buinaia combined to clock a 1:41.04 and take the event. USC's Caroline Famous, Katherine Adams, Anicka Delgado and Hannah Kuechler touched second in 1:42.17.
Troy also opened the meet with a relay win as Vaggelis Makyrgiannis, Chris O'Grady, Michal Chmielewski and Artem Selin teamed up to take the 200y medley relay in 1:28.00.
USC's distance swimmers performed well in the 1000y freestyle as junior Marlene Kahler captured the event in 10:03.04, just ahead of her teammate Abraham (10:13.59). In the 500y freestyle, Kahler led a 1-2-3-4 USC finish, touching first in 4:54.66. Sophia Kudryashova was second (4:56.37), following by Minna Abraham (4:59.64) and Hannah Kuechler, who were third and fourth, respectively. On the men's side, Michal Chmielewski won the 1000y free in 9:23.24, touching less than a second ahead of his twin brother Krzysztof Chmielewski, who got the silver finish in the 1000y free (9:24.07). Krzysztof later claimed the 500y free in 4:30.53.
Trojan Michal Chmielewski wrapped up his three-win day with victories in the 100y fly (48.75) and the 200y fly (1:45.17).
USC senior Anicka Delgado won a pair of events on Saturday, capturing both the 100y fly (55.14) and the 50y freestyle (23.35). Fellow senior Dobler also won two events, sweeping the breaststroke events (100y breast – 1:01.76, 200y breast – 2:16.64).
Trojan junior Artem Selin championed the sprint freestyle events for Troy, winning both the 50y free (20.06) and the 100y free (43.92).
Other event wins for the Women of Troy came from Justina Kozan (200y fly – 2:01.16), Vasilissa Buinaia (100y free – 50.53), Alice Waldow (200y back – 2:01.10) and Claire Tuggle (200y IM – 2:06.36).
During his USC debut, Trojan freshman Sanberk Oktar claimed the 200y IM in 1:49.25 and touched second in both the 200y freestyle (1:39.50) and the 200y backstroke (1:48.99).
The Women of Troy secured the sweep over UNLV with a 200y free relay victory as Delgado, Kozan, Kuechler and Abraham clocked a 1:33.73.
The Trojans are back in action next week as they host UC San Diego for a Friday, Jan. 12 2 p.m. dual at Uytengsu. USC's diving squad will resume their season next weekend at the three-day crosstown Bruin Diving Invitational.
